Martyrdom

MARTYRDOM

I WAS NUMB WHEN THE TELEGRAM ARRIVED
YOU WERE NO MORE
SNATCHED BY DEATH AT 22
I REMEMBER WHEN YOU WERE BORN
A SWEET LOAD OF LOVE
I REMEMBER WHEN YOU WENT TO SCHOOL
I REMEMBER WHEN YOU WERE COMMISSIONED
EVERYONE CONGRATULATED;
BUT I HAD A DOUBT ‘IF YOU WERE TO DIE’
YOUR FRIENDS JOINED BANKS & BUSINESS HOUSES
THEY ARE THERE
WHERE WILL THEY BE?
IF YOU WERE NOT THERE.
YOU WILL NOT GROW OLD ANY MORE
WE WILL REMEMBER YOU;
JUST 22 AND NO MORE.
I HOPE THE COUNTRY BENEFITS BY YOUR SACRIFICE A MOTHER’S LOVE AND FATHER’S PRIDE.
