B for ball balloon baby

Once upon a time there was a ball who wanted to be a balloon. He wanted to fly high up in the sky so that he could look down on the world and watch everyone from above.

BALL

He did not like to be kicked around or thrown or lie in a corner when no one was playing with him. All he wanted was to be outside, flying, floating gently in the breeze, just like a balloon does.

BALLOON

One day there was a new guest in the house. It was a baby. A chubby, cooing, cute little baby. When the baby became a little bigger, it started to crawl around. It would bump it’s body against the ball and move it. Sometimes it would sit on the floor and somebody would hand it the ball. Then the baby would hug the ball and hold it tight against its heart. The ball could hear the little heart beating, thump thump, and it’s own heart also went thump thump. It loved the baby.

BABY

Then the baby grew up a little more and started to toddle. It would toddle slowly and when the ball got in its way it would fall on it and clutch it with its tiny hands. The ball just loved being held by the baby.

THE BALL LOVED THE BABY

Some more time went by and the baby was one. There was a big birthday party to celebrate the baby’s turning one year old. Lots and lots of balloons were hung in the living room, The people who came also brought many colorful balloons. The ball was left in the corner. He felt no one was paying attention to him. All the children were grabbing the colorful balloons. Even the baby wanted to touch the balloons. They were so colorful and pretty.

BIRTHDAY PARTY !

Everyone sang, ‘Happy birthday to you,’ to the baby. Then they cut the cake. Lots and lots of photos were taken with the baby and the colorful balloons. Suddenly one naughty boy took the fork he was eating the cake with and pricked the balloon. The balloon burst with a bang so loudly that everyone jumped. The baby started crying.

THE BALLOON BURST

The mother took the baby in her arms and took it out to make it stop crying.Soon the other children followed, each carrying a balloon their hand. They all wanted a balloon. Nobody even thought of the ball lying in the corner. But as one of the children was passing by his foot kicked the ball and it rolled out and lay in the lawn looking at the children holding the colorful balloons.

Suddenly there was a gust of wind and it tugged the string of the balloon. One little child who was holding the string of a red balloon let it go. The balloon floated up in the sky looking so pretty against the blue sky. So the other children let their balloons go. They all floated up and up and up till they vanished from sight. Now the children had nothing.

THE BALLOONS LOOKED SO PRETTY

Then one of the boys saw the ball and ran and picked it up. He threw the ball to his friend who threw it to his friend. All the children threw the ball to each other. Then they took the ball and gave it back to the mother because it was time for them to go. They had had a lot of fun because of the ball.

THE CHILDREN HAD A LOT OF FUN

The mother waved goodbye to the children. Then she took the ball and gave it to the baby who hugged it to its heart and cooed with happiness. The ball was happy too. He no longer wanted to be a balloon. Balloons only look pretty, make a loud noise when they burst and frighten babies and do not stay with you if you let go of their string. But a ball is very useful. You can play with it.

IT’S BETTER TO BE USEFUL

A for Apple, Acorn, Aardvark Story and Movie! Lucky you !

A for Apple

Once upon a time there was a tree which was laden with fruits, all hanging low that they were easily eaten by all the animals who sauntered and grazed in the orchard in which it was planted.

Many birds too sat in its branches and pecked at its fruits and enjoyed its delicious fruits.

And the bees and the butterflies enjoyed the juice of the broken fruit when they alighted on it.

But the more the birds and the bees and the butterflies hovered around the tree the more fruits it bore. It never ran out of fruits.

Every season it became more and more plentiful. Soon other trees like him also became laden with fruits and the whole orchard smelt heavenly.

One day two people came walking into the orchard. They were a man and a woman. They saw the fruit trees and were delighted.

They eat the fruits and decided they were going to pluck them all and sell them and go into the business of fruit selling . So that is what they did . They plucked each and every fruit from each and every tree, packed them in boxes and sent them to the city to be enjoyed by them.

Apple picking

Now there were no fruits left for the animals, the birds, the butterflies and the bees.

Since they had nothing to eat they decided to leave and find another place where they did not have to be hungry. So they left the orchard.

As soon as they left the apple trees stopped bearing fruits. They were so lonely without their friends who enjoyed their fruits but did not finish all of them at one go.

When the trees stopped bearing fruit the man and woman wondered what to do .

They went to a village to consult a horticulturist who is a person who knows all about planting trees. They told him what had happened and asked him what to do.

The horticulturalist told them, “Ah, you have been very greedy.”

Then he took out a seed from his shed and told them, “Go and plant this acorn and wait for it to grow. Only when it is fully grown will your problems be over. Till then do not go near the apples trees”

The man and woman did what the horticulturist had told them to do. They planted the acorn and waited for it to grow into a tree.

Now the acorn takes a long time to grow and to be fully grown it takes many years. Many years passed while the tree from the acorn was growing slowly.

ACORN

OAK TREE

The apple trees, meanwhile had got some rest. Slowly they started flowering and then fruits began to appear. The animals, birds, bees, butterflies came back to enjoy the fruits and the flowers. When they came back the fruits also started multiplying. Soon the apple orchard was as before, plentiful.

The apple tree flowered again

But the acorn was taking so long to become an oak tree that the man and woman were too old to work, plucking fruits, packaging them and sending them to the city to be sold. They had become like aardvarks, slow, ungainly and sleepy.

AARDVARK

So they decided that they were no longer going to be in the fruit business but will manage with whatever they could get to eat and spend the rest of their days meditating about the nature of trees.

Soon they were going to find out that you cannot mess with nature or a horticulturist will come and fix the problem and, maybe, turn them into aardvarks.

Peacock Tails !

A little trailer first !
Here’s a little trailer for those who are not inclined to see the full movie about two peacocks , one of which wanted to fly , and the other , pulled him down to earth and reality and taught him some valuable life lessons ! Do what you are made to do , not what you want to do !
Then, if you have the time and in these days of lockdowns, who does not , you are welcome to watch the full movie of fifteen minutes !

Mayura wanted to make the world more beautiful but before he could ruin his beautiful feathers by using them as a dust rag Peekaboo arrived to knock some sense into his peacock brain.
He also gifted him a new pair of boots to hide his ugly legs ! What are friends for, after all , hmmm.

AND HERE’S THE STORY ON WHICH THIS MOVIE IS BASED

THE PALACE WAS GRAND AND MAYURA STROLLING IN THE GROUNDS WAS PREOCCUPIED WITH HIS THOUGHTS.
“WHAT IS THE POINT OF LIFE ?
“DO WE HAVE A PURPOSE ?”

“LOOK AT MY FEATHERS, THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL, MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN THE RAINBOW. AND YET, DO THEY HAVE A PURPOSE”
“SHOULDN’T ALL BEAUTY HAVE A PURPOSE?”

MAYURA KEPT WALKING, THINKING PROFOUND THOUGHTS. HE ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT. THE CAR SCREECHED TO A HALT. MAYURA QUICKLY RACED ACROSS, HIS HEART BEATING AND FLUTTERING JUST LIKE HIS BEAUTIFUL TAIL FEATHERS.

BUT THIS LITTLE BRUSH WITH DEATH GOT HIM THINKING EVEN MORE DEEPLY.
“WE ALL LEAVE THIS WORLD ONE DAY. SO SHOULDN’T ONE LEAVE IT A BETTER PLACE, A CLEANER PLACE ?”

MAYURA WAS SO TAKEN UP WITH THIS THOUGHT HE IMMEDIATELY STARTED USING HIS FEATHERS AS A BROOM AND STARTED CLEANING UP THE PALACE LAWNS,DUSTING AWAY THE LEAVES AND PUTTING THEM AWAY IN A GARBAGE BAG. HE WAS SO BUSY SWEEPING AND CLEANING,HE DIDN’T NOTICE ANOTHER PEACOCK SITTING GRANDLY ON A BENCH LOOKING AT HIM SARDONICALLY.

“WHAT ARE YOU DOING ?” HE SAID

“CLEANING UP,” SAID MAYURA, NOT MISSING A BEAT AS HE DUSTED AND SWEPT THE DIRT WITH HIS BEAUTIFUL TAIL FEATHERS.

“WELL, THAT’S JUST FINE AND DANDY BUT WHY USE YOUR TAIL FEATHERS FOR IT ? AND WHY NOT GET ONE OF YOUR PALACE MINIONS ? IT’S NOT YOUR JOB ! “

TO BE CONTINUED….. ( BUT YOU CAN SEE THE MOVIE )

Some character’s from Jungle Land

Who is Melody? Melody is the heroine of my book; a little, black cuckoo who realizes one day that the purpose of her life was to sing. But how could she sing when Monsieur Tar-tar, the bull-frog who tutors her brothers, the four crows, Doray, MeFar, Sola and Tidoo thinks she has an awful voice. Even her single mom, Maggie Hatchery, pities Melody but she does want her to get her chance. And her chance comes when the falcon king, King Koo-tan – kha – Amen or King Koo-Toot, the King of Bird Land announces a world –wide singing contest in order to find a new court entertainer to replace the old one, Madame KuuKuuuu, who has being throwing too many tantrums. What no one knows, including the folks of Jungle-Land, is that Madame Kuukuuuu is Melody’s biological mother who had abandoned Melody in Maggie’s nest so that she could pursue her dreams of becoming a star. Melody, now trained by Senor Julio, the blind, reclusive thrush is a virtuoso songstress and trounces the competition in spite of the shenanigans of KuuKuuuu and replaces her as the new court entertainer. But can life in a golden age be happy? Melody now longs for the freedom of Jungle-land but she is under a contract. She becomes depressed and, one day, is truly cuckoo ! BELLA LOVES HER LIFE !

My most favorite moment is when Poorvi is in town and my pampering increases exponentially. She has a real calling to be a dog masseuse ! Why do folks think that dogs don’t need to be rubbed down like our equinine friends . Dogs also need constant (or at least once a day if that is inconvenient for our lazy masters ) finger massage. It keeps the blood flowing to our temple and other body parts and keeps our hair/ fur springy and shiny !

Now that I am not as young as before ( pssst keep this to yourselves , we female dogs have the same pretensions as the females of your kind !) I really do have to work harder to keep up appearances of an erstwhile beauty contest runner up in the 50 lb category where I was first in a grand total of three contestants !

Whatever ! A winner is a winner and I am not going to be giving these details to all and sundry , only to you , my dear fans and readers . So again , keep a secret , if you will !

Of course , it’s not easy to get this kind of treatment and pampering since there are no luxury pet grooming centers or , maybe, my pack turns a Nelson’s eye to them even if they exist ; Flintstones, I say !

If you take a gander at the video you will see frequent nosing and holding hands is required by way of encouragement to which she is happily responsive . Yup, Poorvi is one of kind , a dear soul and I love her very, very much !

And I will even suffer her PDA’s ( Public Display of Affection, in case you are not acronym savvy ! ) just as long as she does not stop the champi ( Indian word for head massage from which the English word shampoo originated ! I am well versed in the nuances of the world languages even though my personal preference is the “ Woof “ language – article about it elsewhere on this blog )

BOW WOW TO A SPECIAL PERSON IN MY LIFE …..I BOW to the WOW in you !i

MY BFF – An expert in head massage , can give one even whilst she looks away !

Today I am going to write about a very special person in my life and tell you what makes her special or for that matter what makes anyone special to me.

It’s not good looks ( though she is very good looking ); after all dogs can only like dog looking people which people don’t like. In fact, they don’t think it’s nice to look like a dog and when they want to insult someone they say, “ She looks like a dog. “! Shouldn’t that be a compliment? Go figure.

Anyways coming back to this human , she is good looking and smart and well turned out, though what do we care about what you wear. After all we only wear our fur coat proudly and look like what Mother Nature intended us to look like.

But, I guess humans have their own peccadilloes ( which means a small infraction , ooops , another big word to explain a big word ; looks like Professor Ollie is with me in spirit ! ) . Anyways, it means to do something which others may consider an offense but it’s not something one should make a big song and dance about . Ah ! but I digress ( which means I am going away from the subject )

So she is very fancy shmancy and what not. People tell me she is educated but then what do we dogs care about whether you went to Harvard, Yale or Princeton. In fact, we don’t even care if you went to dog school to learn obedience and how to do your personal business out of the home. These things are not important to us. But they are important to humans then so be it.

So what makes this human special to me . For that matter what makes any human special to us dogs . Well, here comes the big SECRET of what quality makes us tick ! No, not those pesky creatures that cling to us and drive us insane . But what makes us dogs go ape with happiness . Oops 🙊, another critter reference ! All right what makes us 😀!

Yes, what dogs want is PURE LOVE . Love us and we are yours forever. And that’s what makes this human special to me. Her pure, unadulterated, unconditional love for me and for all other animals as well ; unfortunately, even cats. Though I do the draw line here. How can she like cats ? Oh well, there is no accounting for tastes. But there you are.

The secret is out . What makes a human special to dogs . That they love us. Then we don’t care if they wrap their arms around us, squeeze us, kiss us , cuddle us ( see pics ) we will bear with it and even grin as we bear it ( see pic ) because we know it’s coming out of love. Moreover, we can’t expect humans to love the doggy way by sniffing the unmentionable, licking or nipping ( gently ! ) Humans will be humans so it’s all good .

So here’s to the most special person in my life , POORVI SHUKLA . Thank you for all the cuddling , massages, hugs and more.

Happy Birthday .

XOXO BELLA

p.s BOW WOW ( which means I BOW to the WOW in you )

p.p.s. Ambika, don’t get angry because on your birthday you will become the MOST special too. Ditto Aryan and Anu ( my human mom )
